Sick!

I'm referring to both the Blue Jackets' victory over the Kings and my current state of health. First the health thing. I thought I might be coming down with something the last few days but it never came to a head. However, after screaming my head off cheering for the Jackets, now I'm feeling it. My head hurts, my throat hurts, and I have a fever. Hope I didn't contaminate too many people at Nationwide. I should be getting to bed right now but I was so motivated to write!

Now on to the game! First let me say that my "bad feeling" that I blogged about earlier...way off. I'm glad to admit I was wrong.

The Blue Jackets came out strong, but then sucked it up for the second half of the first period and the first part of the second period. After that, they seemed to be clicking. A few notes:

1. Nash's goal was AWESOME! I wish I could have seen the replay (read further to find out why I missed it).

2. Jake Voracek. So glad to see the monkey off his back with his first goal of the season. Granted it was an open-netter, but man, I think he needed it. I think I have been more impressed with his play than any other Jacket...yet he had nothing to show for it. Hopefully he'll take off from here.

3. The game was a special night for raising funds and awareness for cancer. I teared up when they brought a young boy, bald from treatments, on the ice for the puck drop. No child should have to endure that. If I only had a magic wand...

4. Say what you want, I love Dancing Kevin.

5. I took my dad, visiting from Connecticut, to this game. It was his first ever Blue Jackets game and it was nice to treat him to a nice victory.

6. Is everyone always that nice? Fellow fans seated around us, ushers, concession workers, everyone was so polite and kind. I especially enjoyed the conversation I had with the hot mom while I was in line to get a water for my son. She had a four year old boy too so she struck up a conversation with me. Thank you son for being with me! Yowza!

I did have some bad luck though (besides the illness). At Buca before the game, I was trying to cut a pizza propped up on two cans. Bad idea. It wasn't secure and fell. Instinct told me to save it at all costs! Well, some cheese landed on my hand and burnt my finger pretty darn good. I didn't want to be a pansy about it, but it was worse than I thought so I had to ask our server if there was a first aid kit in the house. I got a bandaid and was fine.

Then, when Rick Nash scored his awesome goal, my four year old son raised his arms in celebration. His finger jabbed me in the eye, dead on. My contact was dislodged and I couldn't even keep my eye open. So I had to frantically make my way to the restroom where after a few minutes I was able to locate and reposition my lens (it was way up underneath my eyelid). So that's why I didn't get to see the replay.

As we were leaving, one last stroke of bad luck. I somehow managed to twist my ankle walking across the street. Thankfully, after limping for a while, it seems okay.

As I tell my kids though...I'm tough, I'm a hockey player. Great night to be a Jackets fan!
