Why?

I just found out that there is going to be a remake of the movie "Slap Shot." The only word I can think of is "why?"

Here is a link: http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/08/29/update-on-universals-slap-shot-remake/

My favorite line of the article is where the author says "this is a cherry on the sundae of suck." Couldn't have put it better myself.

The original Slap Shot was released in 1977. For over 30 years it has been regarded as not only the best hockey movie of all time, but as one of the greatest sports movies of all time. I still see people today at hockey games wearing Chiefs jerseys and sporting Hanson brothers glasses. It has truly transcended time as a perfect sports movie.

Now some genius wants to remake the movie and got a movie studio to back the project. When will these people leave well enough alone? It's bad enough that they tried not one but TWO horrible sequels. Now they want to remake the thing. That's blasphemy if you ask me.

Certain movies should never be touched. They are classics and if people would like to enjoy them, they should do so with the understanding that the film was made during a different time period. The age of the movie should be embraced and appreciated for what it's worth. Let me say that we do not need an updated, modernized version of this movie. It's perfect the way it is. Leave it alone.

The remade Slap Shot is scheduled to be released in 2012. The Mayan calendar ends that year so maybe the world will end and save us from this abomination.
